How Deposits Work
A €400 security deposit is charged at booking and used only for eligible damage, loss, or violations.
Amount and when it is charged
A €400 security deposit is charged when your booking is accepted. It is processed by Stripe.
The deposit is used only for eligible damage, loss, or policy violations during the rental.
Why it is charged (not just held)
Stripe card holds usually last about 7 days. Many rentals last longer, so Roofwander captures (charges) the deposit at booking and refunds it later if there is no valid claim.
What it does not cover
The deposit is not a rental fee. Your rental price and fees are separate.
If damage costs more than the deposit
The security deposit helps cover potential damage during the rental.
If the damage costs more than the deposit, you may still be responsible for the remaining amount under the applicable laws between private individuals.
Depending on your country and insurance policy, your personal liability insurance may cover the damage.
Roofwander can provide proof of the rental if needed, but is not responsible for damages and only acts as an intermediary between the renter and the owner.
We are looking to offer insurance services in the future. Volume is still low today, and we are doing our best to provide the best experience we can.
If something goes wrong
Contact the owner right away. The owner has 2 days after the rental ends to submit a deposit claim for eligible damage, loss, or policy violations.
If a claim is needed, you and the owner complete the Security Deposit Claim Form and email it to deposit@roofwander.com with subject Deposit Claim – [Order ID]. We will call you after receiving the email.
If you disagree with a charge, see Disputing a Deposit Charge.
