Rental Guide

This guide explains how to set your daily rate, manage booking requests, understand commission structure, and receive payouts as a rooftop tent owner on RoofWander.

Set your price

You set one daily rate for your tent (€25–€50 is typical, depending on tent and location). Under Pricing → Optional add-ons you can list extras renters tick when booking. Each add-on has a name, description, price, and type:

  • Per day: Added on top of your daily rate each rental day (e.g. €2/day). Uses the same length discounts as your base price.
  • Fixed (one-time): Charged once per rental (e.g. €15). No length discount.

When a renter selects add-ons, the total updates automatically from your base price plus the extras they chose.

Requests, acceptance & payouts

Respond to renter questions in your RoofWander Inbox. Quick replies improve your booking conversion rate.

Request arrives

You receive a booking request with dates, renter details, and a preview of your earnings.

  • Respond within 6 days: Accept or decline the request.
  • If you accept: The renter is charged, your calendar is blocked, and the booking is confirmed.
  • If you decline or don't respond: The request expires and the renter is not charged.

Payout timing

Payouts are initiated automatically 48 hours after the rental ends. Stripe then delivers funds to your bank account in 2–7 business days, depending on your bank and country.

Payments

All payments and deposits are processed securely through Stripe using industry-standard encryption and PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure. You'll connect a Stripe account to receive payouts. Once a booking is completed (or automatically 48 hours after the return date), the payout is initiated and typically arrives in 2–7 business days, depending on your bank and country. Stripe supports major debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), providing secure, trusted checkout for your renters.

Commission

RoofWander charges a 15% commission on each rental. A portion covers marketing to drive more bookings to your listing. Creating and maintaining listings is free.

Deposit & claims

For complete details, see our Security Deposit for Owners guide. At rental start, you'll receive an email with a claim submission link. If damage costs exceed the deposit, renters remain responsible under the Terms of Service.

Cancellations

To cancel a trip you already accepted, email cancelationsupport@roofwander.com with your Order ID and a short reason. Cancellations should be exceptional.

Pricing & discounts

Longer bookings receive automatic discounts. Each day is priced according to its position in the rental (per-day add-ons use the same tiers; fixed add-ons do not):

Calculation

Each day is priced according to its discount bracket

Example: 12 days at €40/day
  • Days 1–4: 4 × €40 × 1.00 = €160
  • Days 5–7: 3 × €40 × 0.90 = €108
  • Days 8–10: 3 × €40 × 0.85 = €102
  • Days 11–12: 2 × €40 × 0.80 = €64
  • Total: €434 (before add-ons, fees, and deposit)
