Rules for a smooth Rooftop Tent Adventure

At Roofwander, we believe that real freedom on the road comes from doing things the right way. A few thoughtful habits make all the difference: fewer problems, better encounters, and more peace of mind.

Respect nature and private land

If you’re near private property, take a minute to ask for permission, most landowners appreciate a polite approach and will say yes. Always take your waste with you, clean up after yourself, and leave the spot just as you found it or even a little better. Respect earns trust, and it keeps these places open for everyone.

Stick to marked roads

Stay on official roads and tracks. Cutting through forests, fields, or private paths might seem tempting, but it can cause damage and upset landowners. The marked road exists for a reason and it usually leads to better views anyway.

Be Mindful of Animals and Crops

If you’re in a rural area, chances are you’ll be near farmland or livestock. Keep your distance, don’t drive through fields, and always close gates behind you. A little care helps avoid damage to crops and keeps animals (and farmers) happy.

No Open Fires or Smoking Near Forests or Buildings

Wildfire risk is real even if things don’t look dry. If fires are allowed, only use fallen wood from the ground and keep flames small and under control. Never smoke or light a fire near dense vegetation, dry grass, or wooden buildings.

Be Kind to the People You Meet

Whether it’s hikers, cyclists, locals, or other campers a friendly hello goes a long way. It helps build a positive image of rooftop campers and makes the community stronger. You might even get some great tips or a new favorite spot from a local.

Keep It Quiet

Let nature speak. Avoid loud music, bright lights, or anything that disturbs the calm. One of the best parts of camping is the peace and quiet; enjoy it, and help others do the same.
