Payment & Pricing Guide for rentals
Whether you're renting out your rooftop tent or booking one for your next adventure, RoofWander makes the process simple and secure. This guide explains how payments, deposits, and pricing work—so both providers and customers know what to expect.
1 For Providers: Setting Prices & Getting Paid
1.1 Set Your Own Price
You set the daily rental price, typically between €25-€50, depending on the rooftop tent.
1.2 Receive Booking Requests
When a customer sends a request, you’ll be notified via RoofWander inbox with booking details, customer info, and earnings breakdown.
1.3 Accept or Decline
You have up to 6 days to accept or decline the booking request. If you accept:
- The customer is charged
- Your calendar is updated
- The rental is confirmed
If you decline or don’t respond, the request expires, and the customer isn’t charged.
1.4 Get Paid After the Rental
You’ll receive your payout after the rental ends, either automatically 48 hours after the return date or manually when you mark it as complete. Payouts are processed securely via Stripe and typically arrive within 2–7 business days, depending on your bank and country. Your first payout may take slightly longer for verification.
1.5 RoofWander Commission
A small percentage-based commission is deducted from your earnings. This goes toward marketing, advertising, and platform development—helping you reach more renters and increase bookings.
1.6 Deposit and Claims
If there are any issues with your tent or equipment, you will receive an email at the start of the rental with a link to submit a claim. If the costs exceed the deposit, customers are responsible for covering the additional expenses, as outlined in the Terms of Service.
2 For Customers: How to Book and Pay
Booking a rooftop tent is quick, safe, and straightforward. Here’s what’s included in your payment and how the process works:
2.1 What’s Included in the Total Price
Your total booking cost includes:

Daily Rental Rate: Set by the tent owner

Fixed Fee (€5): Covers operational costs, especially for short rentals

Customer Service Fee (percentage-based): Helps maintain the platform, security, and customer support

Refundable Deposit: €400, returned after your trip if no issues are reported

2.2 Booking Process
- Select Your Dates Choose your preferred dates. The total cost will update automatically.
- Send Request & Pre-Authorization Submit the booking request. Your card is pre-authorized, meaning the amount is held but not charged until the provider accepts.
- Provider Confirms Booking Once the provider accepts, the payment is processed and the booking is confirmed. You’ll receive a confirmation email and access to your Order Page.
- Track Your Booking Use your Order Page to contact the provider, ask questions, or prepare for pickup.
2.3 Deposit Refund
The deposit is charged at booking and automatically refunded 2 days after your trip ends, as long as no claims are made. If there’s an issue, we’ll contact both you and the provider.
2.4 Leave a Review
After your trip, you’ll receive a prompt to rate your experience and share feedback. This helps keep the community trustworthy and transparent.
3 Payment via Stripe
All payments and deposits on RoofWander are securely processed through Stripe. Providers are required to create a Stripe account to receive payouts, while customers can pay using any major credit or debit card supported by Stripe. The platform uses bank-level encryption and advanced fraud protection to ensure secure and smooth transactions for both parties.
After a booking is completed, payouts to providers are automatically initiated via Stripe. Typically, Stripe processes payouts within 2–7 business days, depending on the provider’s country and bank.
4 Pricing

Dynamic Pricing Breakdown
Longer bookings receive greater discounts. The total price is calculated based on your rental length, with discounts increasing as your booking duration grows. Pricing Tiers:
- 20+ days > unitPrice * 0.6 40% off
- 15–19 days > unitPrice * 0.7 30% off
- 10–14 days > unitPrice * 0.8 20% off
- 7–9 days > unitPrice * 0.85 15% off
- 5–6 days > unitPrice * 0.9 10% off
- < 5 days > unitPrice * 1
5 Cancellations & Refunds
5.1 Provider-Initiated Cancellations
If a provider cancels, the booking is refunded in full and their calendar is reopened for the cancelled dates. However, Stripe fees are non-refundable.
5.2 Operator-Managed Cancellations After Acceptance
Once a booking is accepted, only the RoofWander team can cancel it via the Sharetribe Console. If either the customer or the provider needs to cancel after acceptance, they must contact us at administration@roofwander.com. When a cancellation is processed by our team, the customer will receive a full refund, but please note that Stripe’s processing fees are not reimbursed, which results in a small loss for the platform.
Customers should be aware that no refunds will be issued if the cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the rental start time. Similarly, providers who cancel after a booking has been confirmed will be charged a cancellation fee, to discourage last-minute disruptions and compensate for the impact on the customer experience.
